Weekly Goodness:: Take 52

Good Morning! How the heck is everyone?!? WOAH this week has been crazy and thankfully gone by SO quickly. This week I was back to work full time and JoMarie started daycare full time. UGH you guys it’s been so hard and I know many of you momma’s can relate. I know it will get easier, but right now it’s just killing me being away from her for so long. I’ve just stopped doing my mascara until I get to work. FOR THE LOVE 😉 Loving this little girl so much is emotional stuff I tell ya! On the bright side of it all, JoMarie is doing so great at daycare and being back to work has been nice and the days fly by with how busy I am. I have been training for a new position for the last two years and I started that position this week.  The excitement of a new position, new office, and new responsibility, made jumping back into work not so bad. So why the heck not throw a few more things into our week….

Nick got hit with the flu bug which caused him to be quarantined to our guest bedroom Monday-Wednesday and I started my very last Graduate class last night. IT HAS BEEN A WEEK and I’m one happy girl that today is Friday! Although it was a crazy week and some unexpected things hit us, I can’t help but see so much GOODNESS and some I want to share with all of you on this beautiful Friday. SMILE today… right now, seriously! Stop for a second and think of your three biggest blessings in your life at this very moment. Aren’t those three things worth being a happy and grateful human today? Forget the stress, ignore the haters, take a deep breath and just SMILE because you deserve to be happy today. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!

Congrats to Libby Snow on being randomly selected for my BCAA IdealFit giveaway!! Libby was emailed and will be receiving her blender cup and BCAA samples next week 🙂 IdealFit is just killing me with their sales lately… I want it allllllll!!! If you have any questions about the products I love and use, ask away!! You can use code: MyGoodness on your purchase for an additional 10% off your entire order. I’ve preached it before and will 100 more times, I am very cautious of what I put into my body and would never suggest something to you all that I didn’t believe in and personally love myself.

On my snapchat (JordynAshley) many of you saw some meal prep that was happening on Sunday. I am obsessed with these roasted veggies! Sweet potatoes, mushrooms, and green beans. They were great in our lunches all week. Literally just put them on a cookie sheet, add some olive oil, and seasoning, bake them and boom! Get those veggies in!!

A plus to being back to work is that I’m required to take an hour lunch. I use this time to workout so it felt great to get some consistent workouts in this week!

What is a weekly goodness post without some baby pictures?! Being away from my mini just sucks, but it helps when her daddy and daycare send me pictures when I’m away 🙂 Here are some from this week. Her little personality is coming through if you can’t tell. She will be 3 months tomorrow and that is just insane to me! Time can SLOW DOWN!

Have a great weekend everyone!! Thanks for stopping by for some weekly goodness and don’t forget to smile today.

Let’s Talk BCAA’s + GIVEAWAY

Happy Saturday to you!! How is everyones weekend going so far? Life has been h-a-p-p-e-n-i-n-g over here with JoMarie starting daycare and me going back to work. This coming week begins our craziness of trying to find my new balance between working full time, taking two classes for my graduate program, being a new mommy, and fitting in everything else I love. Bring it ON! Being busy just means you are blessed right?! 😉 We will go with that! Welllllll, I have some goodness to share with you all today. Let’s talk all about BCAA’s.

Maybe we can start with what the heck that even stands for. Branch Chain Amino Acid’s. I will never forget the first time I heard of this product. I was working out a few years ago and often bought a smoothie at the gym smoothie bar. The guy working the smoothie joint was always full of knowledge and was a “health freak”.  One day I asked him what I could do to increase my workouts and results. I was already working out often, taking my pre-workout and protein drinks, and was doing pretty high intensity workouts but felt I was just in a rut with my results. He told me to drink BCAA’s throughout my workouts. He explained them to me as “they will help your muscles work at their full capacity throughout your workouts, which will help you gain more lean muscle and help those muscles recover correctly”. This is often how I explain BCAA’s to others when they ask me about them. But let’s go into a little more detail as I really want to express how much I love them and honestly feel they make SUCH a difference.

BCAAs are important for both muscle growth and recovery. IdealLean BCAAs maximize recovery and endurance, they also pack in a fat-loss blend to help you stay lean and build lean muscle, and also contains coconut water powder to help you stay hydrated. What really impressed me specifically with IdealLean BCAAs is the fact that they contain 0 calories, 0 sugar, and 0 fat. WHAT?!?

You can honestly drink BCAA’s whenever you want! I personally enjoy drinking them throughout my workout but you can drink them post-workout or even just throughout your day. I am so excited how BCAA’s have made a difference in my workouts, I want to share this goodness.

I am giving away an IdealFit shaker bottle with samples of BCAA’s. All you need to do to enter is comment on this post and tell me something you are doing this weekend that makes you happy. One randomly selected winner will be selected next Wednesday 🙂 Also I have a new code for you guys. Use code MyGoodness at checkout for any IdealFit or IdealShape products and you can get 10% off your entire order. OH and I don’t think I mentioned, our IdealFit BCAA’s are on major sale right now!

If you have any questions at all let me know 🙂 I do NOT share anything I have not tried and do not absolutely love and thats a promise! Have a great weekend ladies and do something that makes you feel happy this weekend! Maybe that’s sleeping in a little longer, pushing yourself to try a new workout, or starting a new book. It really is the smallest actions that make the biggest difference in our happiness.

Staying Healthy When We Are Busy At Work

Good Morning loves!! Here is a little health post for those of you who are juggling a lot and trying to stay on pace with your health and fitness goals! Enjoy and Happy Monday 🙂

Are you approaching a deadline or have you started to extend your hours because the work is just never ending? If so, you may feel like work is taking over. Even when you’ve got less time and energy, it’s essential to look after yourself. It’s perhaps even more important to follow those healthy living rules if you’re running on empty or you’re under pressure. If work is taking over, here are some health-boosting tips to keep you on track.

Keeping your body fueled. I’ve preached this time and time again. Fuel yourself with what your body is craving!

If you’re working long hours, you need to make sure that your body has enough fuel to get you through the day. If you don’t eat enough or you’re filling up on the wrong foods, your energy levels will decline quickly, and you may find that you lose motivation and focus. Try and ensure that you make time for main meals. If you find that the afternoons drag, and you’re clock-watching by 3pm, change what you eat for lunch. It’s beneficial to go for complex carbohydrates and proteins, which will keep you feeling full until your next meal. I have also found that doing some kind of activity over your lunch can help your energy level for the rest of your day. GO run those stairs or take a walk over lunch. If you feel your eyes dropping, and your concentration wavering, eat a banana or a handful of nuts. Avoid foods that are packed with artificial sugars, such as cakes and biscuits. This can be SO tough, especially when your co-workers are bringing in yummy treats and sweets, so keeping some healthy options on hand at work will help you. If you’re eating on the go, and this is affecting your food choices, make time to prepare lunch in advance the night before. Sunday meal prep, you will not regret it!! It’ll take five minutes to put a wrap, sandwich or salad together, and you’ll have a nutritious, delicious meal to enjoy on your lunch break.

Fitting in workouts

When our schedules are packed full, the last thing many people want  to do is a workout. But if you can get your booty to the gym, you WILL NOT regret it. Tell me the last time you said “ugh I hate that I just worked out”. Exercise is such an effective stress-reliever, and it can help you sleep better as well. You can take your mind off the office and get fit at the same time. If you don’t have time to do lengthy sessions, opt for short bursts of intense activity. If you’ve gained a few pounds you want to say goodbye to, replace an hour on the elliptical with HIIT classes for losing weight. If you’re stressed out, swap a jog for a 30-minute boxing session. If you usually spend an hour on the exercise bike, opt for a spin class instead. You’ll be burning the same amount of calories, if not more, in a much shorter period.

Managing your time

When we are stressed with the weight of work, family, friends, school, and whatever else your world may consist of, it’s more important than ever to manage your time. You may have a lot of things to do, but you need to put your health first. Put YOUR health first?! I know, for some people that just seems impossible but just try it, for a month. Put your health first and see how well everything else falls into place. This means taking time out to relax, and ensuring you get enough sleep every night. If you’re trying to work 10-hour days on 4 hours of sleep, you’ll be running on empty before you know it and when we are attempting to run on empty, our loved ones struggle as much as we do!

From time to time, we go through patches when it seems like our career is taking over our lives. If you’re juggling work with childcare or you’re working around the clock, don’t take your eye off the ball when it comes to your health. Follow these simple steps to stay on track.

Happy Monday! Make this week great!!

JoMarie’s First Valentines Day

I LOVE Valentine’s Day and I always have! Long before I had a Valentine of my own or before I got to celebrate Jo’s first Valentines Day with her, I have just always loved this Holiday. My Mother is 100% to blame 😉 She always went over and beyond on both Valentine’s Day and Easter with making my day so special each year! I remember feeling so loved and excited to wake up on these Holiday’s and search for my Easter basket or find a cute little something for me on the kitchen table the morning of V-day.

This has 100% rubbed off on me as there is nothing I love more than showering my loved ones on these special days! I have so much fun getting together little gifts or even just finding the perfect card to make someone feel a little more special. Soooo you can imagine how our first V-day went with JoMarie 😉 We had fun!! She probably thinks I’m a crazy mama with my singing, kisses, and dress up we did all day.

We went to drop off little gift bags for Jo’s cousins and of course put a little something together for Nick. Nothing huge or anything, I try to stay budget friendly with gift giving but it certainly is my love language. Just knowing the little ones heart might have felt a little more full on the day of LOVE?!? nothing better! I think this goes for a lot of people. You hear about the “drive thru difference” on the radio. This is where you pay for the random person’s order behind you in a drive thru. Giving without expectation just has a way of filling you up! I don’t just mean gifts here!! Absolutely not! A genuine compliment, kind smile, or even just holding the door open for someone will make you feel good.

I hope you all had such a good day full of love!!

Mud Room Updates

Well Good Evening!! I hope you are doing well 🙂 I have been a little MIA on the blog lately and I think that is just my new reality and I’m perfectly okay with that 🙂 I’m making the most out of my last days at home with JoMarie so my posts are few and far between but thank you for still stopping by for the Goodness I do share!!

When Jo was 2 weeks old, my Mom came to stay with us for a week to help out and spend some time with us and it was SO GREAT!! Nick and I loved having her.  During that time, Nick did a couple projects around the house as it would have been a bit much to have three of us constantly staring at the new baby 😉

Off of our garage entrance to our house, is a little mud room/laundry room. There was much more potential for the room than what we had been using it for which was strictly laundry and a closet. Nick spiced up this space and I LOVE it. It was extremely budget friendly and just by adding some new paint and a few other things, the room serves much more of a purpose now. Wasted space…. our biggest enemy and something neither of us can stand!

We came to realize very quickly that something very important for us as a couple, is staying organized and having good communication. We both get very busy with our commitments and now adding a little one to that mix, we decided to add a space in our home where we can turn to in order to help us navigate through our busy weeks.

We added a space to plan out our meals, always keep a running “store list”, and keep our families monthly planner pinned up and filled out. In the short time we have had this space, it’s helped a lot!! Planning out our meals is huge for us and I think helps a lot of families. We are way less likely to eat out or grab something not so healthy from the freezer. Also having a monthly calendar filled out is so nice! Between work, school, baseball, friends, family, and having a baby, knowing each others schedules for the month helps us not double book and helps us be on the same page.

Here is what we did specifically to our space. Right away we pained the walls a lighter color to brighten the space up and painted the wood panels white (they were brown before).  Nick then added that awesome built in table above the washer and dryer. This has been so nice to have and I think adds a lot to this little room. The table also serves the purpose of storing JoMarie’s carseat 😉

Next we put the little wall together. We found the frames on sale for the “MENU” and “LIST” idea. I just printed off a sheet of paper for each and put them in the frames. We already had the little key holder, letter E, and proverbs 3:5 sign. We bought a $7 desk calendar and added some burlap string to it to hang, and bought a $4 cork board where we pin any coupons, cards, or pictures up. Very simple and rather budget friendly! I have really enjoyed this tiny little transformation and thought it was worth sharing in case you have a space you want to spice up a little!!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great rest of your week!

Fitness Routine Hit a Roadblock? Finding The Motivation When Things Get Difficult

Good Morning loves and Happy Friday!!! I hope everyone is having a great week and are reading for the weekend to begin. I’ve put a little post together that really, I needed for myself and thought some of you may benefit as well 🙂 How are those goals going for 2017??

It’s only been a little over a month, but already it seems like a lifetime ago that we set our new year’s resolutions doesn’t it? Hopefully, you’re still smashing your health goals, but even the most motivated amongst us will probably be feeling the strain at this point. Keeping up a healthy lifestyle demands dedication, and there are times when collapsing into bed rather than hitting the gym seems like a far better option. But stay with it, already you should be feeling stronger, more fitter and healthier in general, even if you have not been on track 100%. This will only improve more the longer you keep to your plan! If you’ve hit a roadblock or are starting to struggle, here are some of the ways you can find the motivation to keep on going.

Track Your Progress

For many people, being able to physically see your progress is very motivating. It could be tracking calories, amount of water consumed, weight lost, minutes of exercise done, or even the shameless selfie to compare yourself to yourself week after week. Many fitness trackers can turn your steps, calories, and exercise information into easy to read graphs and charts, when you’re feeling a bit down looking at how far you have come can really help. Nick just came home last night saying “look at my steps today” as he flashed me his Fitbit. There are so many options out there right now, from the Fitbit to the Apple Watch and many more. Decide on your budget and the kind of features you’re after and make your decision from there. If you know that this kind of information will inspire you, then it’s well worth the investment.

Find an Exercise You Enjoy

Has your exercise routine gotten a little boring? Are you fed up of staring at the same four walls of the gym, going through the motions of the same old exercises? I have a girlfriend dealing with this struggle right now and the biggest piece of advice I had for her is that it’s time to  switch it up! Try a new class, join a team sport or read some fitness blogs for new things to try. If you enjoy something and can look forward to your workouts, you’re far more likely to stick it out.

Buy Some New Workout Clothes

What?!? Yep, I’m telling you to go out and treat yourself 😉 Sometimes just having some new work out clothes to exercise in can give you the motivation you need to keep on going. When you’re confident and happy with how you look, you’re more likely to want to get out there and train. Honestly some of my favorite workout clothes come from Target and last me forever. If you’ve been exercising since the new year and plan to continue to do so, you deserve some new workout clothes that you feel great in and will help you stay motivated to keep kicking butt. So some new gear can help to emphasize your progress which is always a great feeling.

Workout With a Friend

Having a friend who’s on the same path is useful when you lack in motivation. They can help remind you why you’re doing this and to keep going! In time you will probably do the same for them too! They can keep you going and give you the pep talk that you need when your spirits are low. Who doesn’t need a friend like this?!? Even if you can’t workout together, having that same goal, to be healthy and workout, a simple motivational text, card, or snapchat can be just enough to motivate you!

Make a plan for this weekend to help meet your goals! What is something you can do this weekend to get closer to those meeting those goals? Go for it!!! Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for stopping by 🙂

Baby Update:: 2 Months

Good Morning! I cannot believe we have a 2 month old already! I thought it was a good time to do a little blog update on how things are going 🙂 Life as a new mommy has been such an adventure and I really think I was put here to be JoMarie’s momma and love her with everything I have. When I was pregnant I would constantly think how things would be once our daughter was here with us. The reality is 20 times better than I ever imagined during those 9 months of carrying this sweet girl in my belly.

Maternity leave is going great and I literally get sick to my stomach thinking how close it is to ending. Nothing brings me to tears quicker these days than thinking of not spending my days with my girl, watching her grow and cuddling her. This bond is like no other and I get so emotional thinking of it changing at all. I just keep reminding myself that some of the strongest women in my life have left their babies in someones arms and gone back to work too, I can do this!! I am thankful for this time I have home with Jo and I try to make the most of every minute with her as I will obviously never get this time back. I have started journaling for JoMarie. I wanted something a little more personal, just for her, that she can read someday. There are specific things I want to remember and want her to know about this time in her life so I have started to write her letters in a journal. Some silly little things like how I sing a silly made up song to her every morning when she first wakes up and she gives me the biggest smile with her entire body that melts my heart every single time. Or how Nick would wake up in a panic every single night the first few weeks of her life, asking me “is she okay” as she was sound asleep in her rock n play. I’m also journaling some more personal things that I want her to know about this time. I started this because I often find myself experiencing things with Jo and I think “I wonder what this was like for my mom and I when I was a baby”.

As precious as life has become with becoming a mommy, it has been challenging as well. I always want to keep my blog content real with you guys! You see a lot of the perfect parents and flawless mom’s who make it all seem so simple and easy. It is so far from that in our house 😉 JoMarie is pretty cranky from 5:00-9:00 every single night and her two month check up confirmed she is colicky just like her mommy was. We have our times of feeling helpless and frustrated. The other day all at once, Jo spit up all over herself and straight down my shirt (my third shirt of the day). A couple minutes later she had a complete blow out, my doorbell rang, I was about 2 hours over due to pump, and my dogs were playing tug of war with one of Jo’s bath towels and I could hear it ripping.  It is not all glamorous and I think it’s so important to remember that and not compare ourselves to others “highlight reals” we see on social media. I absolutely share my cute photos of my baby girl smiling more than I share a picture of her screaming her lungs out (yes I have pictures of this as she’s still so stinking cute even when she is so mad) but that is never to hide that we struggle just like every other new parents do! But the struggle is all part of the beauty in parenting. We just do the best we can and love our baby unconditionally and that is enough!

I will say, I am obsessed with her you guys!! I know this is completely normal (at least I hope so) but sitting and just staring at your baby for hours isn’t just something people kid about, people actually do that, I do that! To say the least, I feel very blessed to be JoMarie’s mother and she is the best gift God has ever given Nick and I. She is growing like crazy and changes every single day. She is happy and healthy and that is all we have ever asked for. This little girl is surrounded by people who love her, near and far. Right now she is 11 lbs 13 oz and is 22.5 in long. The girl has a big brain 😉 as she’s in the 90th percentile for her head. JoMarie is a slobbering monster right now and loves to put her hands in her mouth. She has no interest in a pacifier and is very close to finding her thumb which we would be perfectly fine with! I think thumb suckers are so cute! She has a couple sounds she loves that will make her smile no matter what and I’ve only heard her giggle a few times in her sleep. Nick claims she has laughed for him when I was gone but the jury is still out on that one. She kicks kicks kicks her legs like crazy, enjoys bath time, and will have a stare down with any ceiling fan around. Her absolute favorite is being talked to and listening to conversations. I literally talk or sing to her all day long and she has started to coo right back to me. We have been lucky with her having her days and nights figured out since day 1. She wakes up once throughout the night to eat and goes straight back to sleep. With that, the girl doesn’t nap during the day. She is one of those 20 minute cat naps here and there 🙁 sorry daycare!!

Everyday is a new adventure with being first time parents and we are just living it one day at a time. I apologize for the many typos that this post probably has 🙂 it is late, my homework is done for the night, and it’s time to go get some shut eye before little miss wakes up for her next feeding. Thanks for stopping by!!

Cool Ranch Shredded Chicken Lettuce Wraps (Crockpot)

Crockpot meals?!? YASSSS please! Who doesn’t love easy meals for dinner, that are healthy and take very little effort to put together. I have to admit to you guys (I have a post all about this coming up) what my vision of maternity leave was and what it has actually been are two completely different things. It has been exactly what it needs to be!! Silly me had this vision of being able to prep dinner meals each day and I learned very quickly that JoMarie had other plans for our days and of course she comes first!

Nick and I did a full day of preparing freezer meals before Jo was born and I am now so grateful for these. One of the meals we made was Cool Ranch Shredded Chicken. We agreed these were blog worthy and needed to share with you all. This is so easy to prep, throw in the freezer, and take out whenever you need an easy and healthy meal. We added salsa and beans to our lettuce wraps with the chicken mixture and dinner was ready to go.

We decided to make lettuce wraps out of our chicken mixture, but you could also eat this on buns or have in actual taco shells. This is a go to for us now and I hope you try it and like it as much as we do. The bet part is, this makes plenty and we were able to have it for lunch the next day as well. For our lunches, I just put some rice, the chicken mixture, and beans in a container. Simple. Easy. Healthy. WIN! You can find the recipe below 🙂 Thanks for stopping by today!

Are You Being Help Back? How You Can Change Your Lifestyle For The Better

Helloooo! I hope you are all having a great week! It is crazy to think that January is coming to an end, how is everyone doing on those 2017 goals? Here is a little post to help you carry on with those goals.

January seems to be the month where we all like to make some changes. Those changes might have to do with losing weight, getting our finances in order or finally going for that promotion at work. But what some of us would really like is to change our lifestyle in general. This tends to cover the food we eat, the way we feel both physically and mentally, and habits that we want to pick up like random acts of kindness or reading more, and habits we would like to take out of our lives completely. But, too often we can feel held back, something stops us from achieving that lifestyle we so desperately want. So I thought I would highlight some areas that could be the cause of you feeling you can’t achieve your goals, and hopefully this might help you get back on track for the year ahead and to be the bets version of yourself.

Is your body stopping you?

Sometimes we can have the very best intentions of getting fit, eating healthier and just feeling good about ourselves, but our bodies can have different ideas. You may find that you feel pain or struggle when you exercise, and that might be because you have an underlying problem like joint issues, arthritis. Which is actually more common than you would think, way more common than I realized before doing research! When exercise is painful, it doesn’t always just mean you’re out of shape, it could be another issue so just be sure not to ignore your aches and pains.  Checking out websites like RheumatoidArthritis.org offers us a lot of information. It’s worth tackling whatever is causing you pain or discomfort head on to help move on and get to that lifestyle change you are wishing for 🙂

Is it your mindset?

Our minds are powerful tools, like WOAH powerful and they can ultimately play tricks on us. We may start with good intentions, but if you have a negative mindset and thought process then the chances are you won’t carry on or just quite when trying to pursue a healthier YOU. Negative thoughts can impact us more than we realize, so it’s important to work on that thought process and try and have a positive outlook and approach to daily life. Doing this could have a huge impact in more ways than one.

Are you setting unrealistic goals?

We all have that big goal and motivation, it will possibly be the reason you started this journey, but those goals are often the big end result, and sometimes if we focus too much on that we can get disheartened when we don’t get results. While those big dreams are good, it’s worth setting yourself small, realistic goals to help you get on track. This can be a big motivator to help you stick to the path. For instance, right now I have a small goal for myself to get up every morning BEFORE JoMarie wakes up. This way I can get downstairs, make my breakfast, let the dogs outside, and get our morning ready before mommy duty calls. It mentally helps me and is a little goal I have for myself each day. I fail majority of the time, I will be honest 😉 but I’m trying!

Do you really want this change?

If you find yourself struggling the question you need to be asking yourself is if this is something you really want to do. Is it for you or to make someone else happy. Subconsciously you may be happy with the way things are, and someone else is encouraging you to make the changes. It might be time to address those issues. You have to do this and want this for YOU!

Do you want to know how to stop being held back?
Finally, figuring out what the root cause is can only be a positive thing. It will help you move forward and tackle the issues before it stops you achieving your full potential. Keep positive and stay on course and you will start to look and feel exactly as you want to.

Thanks for stoping by today! I want to be sure to say with posts like this, I personally by NO means have the perfect lifestyle and these posts help me just as much as I hope to help others 🙂

Post-Baby Fitness

Good evening!! Late night post for you 🙂 I got little miss to sleep, Nick is in bed, and I brewed a cup of coffee for a late night of school work. Yep, school work. So here I sit, blogging and avoiding my school work 😉 I have recently started to workout again since giving birth and thought I would do a little post on that. Currently I am doing the Kayla Itsines 12 week BBG challenge (when I have time to do it) and I’m also getting back into my lifting program. It feels great, but I have learned some things along the way as well. Be nice to your body!! As much as I LOVE my workouts and the feeling I get after a good workout, right now my favorite workouts include morning stretch time with Jo, and planking over her cute little body and watching her smile at the ridiculous silly faces mommy makes at her.

Pregnancy changes your body in many ways, ways that I never even imagined. But I do not just mean changes to our outside appearance. Do you notice how we tend to only focus on the aesthetic side. It’s a bizarre focus really because in many ways, the biggest change is what happens internally. The feeling is indescribable and something I will not try to explain. You just change.

It has long been suggested that pregnancy alters your internal chemistry in such a way that fitness is harder to achieve. Sure, there’s some biological basis to it as well. There’s also the fact that when you have a new baby – and despite what celebrity magazines proclaim – you’re not focused on “getting your body back”. I LOVE health and fitness and I received many questions asking if I was just going crazy not being able to workout, but honestly, no. It just hasn’t been my focus, but now that I have gotten the go ahead from my Doctor, I have started to workout again and I am learning to love my post-pregnancy body, one step at a time 🙂 It’s actually all pretty freaking beautiful! Your body just carried this little human, pushed the baby out of you, and now your body is healing so that you can live your life chasing that little human around for the next 18 years 😉

So you’ve got your postpartum body and it is different; it’s inevitable. So is this the end? Are you doomed with a “mom body” as people call it, for the end of time?

Of course not. Take, for example, athletes. Tennis star Kim Clijsters gave birth to daughter Jada and then came back to win the US Open. British athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill became World Champion after having her son. And these are the elites! So of course you can return to your previous fitness form – and surpass it if you so choose to. Sure, there are some things that regardless how many burpees you do or weights you lift, some things will always be different. But is that so bad? What’s important is to get to a point where you love your body and are proud of it and feel beautiful if your own mommy skin 🙂

But how?

#1 – Reintroduce Yourself Slowly

So slowly. So very, very slowly. This is a marathon and it’s also a marathon you’re not prepared for – so be careful with it. I will be honest with you all and say I made this mistake. I was SO excited to get my first lift in after the Doctor gave me to go that I jumped right in and tried the weight I was lifting during pregnancy. Well…. I just took 6 weeks off and you lose muscle fast! I had some pretty sore core muscles (and not the good sore) and I felt pretty silly with myself. It’s not worth it!! Take it slow!

The best way to begin is with something simple, like walking. Walking is good! This is made even easier in that you can team it with a stroller, so you get a little baby time as well. The key step is to support your body. If you have any previous injuries, tape them. Use support wherever you need to: thighs, bra, any areas you are concerned about. Make sure you have the right shoes for the job, I’m huge into reviews before I buy things, here are some reviews of the best walking shoes for women

A walk around the block a few times a week is a good way to begin. Or mall walking with your babes in the stroller during the winter months!

#2 – Forget What You Knew Before

Ding ding ding! I need to take my own advice! If you used to be able to do X number of reps or run for X number of miles, then forget them. You can use them as goals if you really want to, but generally, it’s best to forget those numbers and create all new numbers for yourself!

If you push to try and regain your previous stats, then you’re facing an uphill battle that you don’t need. Instead, set new records and teach yourself to find assurance in them as they improve. It doesn’t matter what you could do a year ago; look at how you compare to what you could do a week ago.

#3 – Swim

Swimming is great for your body in a variety of ways, but it’s particularly good for the new Mom. It’s also something you can share with your child as they get older. Nick and I were just chatting how we can’t wait to take JoMarie swimming for the first time! Not only is swimming a decent cardio workout, but it will also help toned and strong – all in the supportive environment of good old H20.

Just remember to take it easy on yourself and love your body! The changes can be so hard, but they are so beautiful as well. Loving your baby is your main focus right now, everything else will come when it’s supposed to 🙂
